Endowed Chair funds were used to help inaugurate the new Moody Music Building and its Concert Hall. Mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne appeared with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra for the grand opening celebration. Other performers who appeared during the spring semester were the Vienna Choir Boys, The Alexander String Quartet, violinist Benny Kim, bass Jerome Hines, and flutist James Walker.
