Woodwind Area
The University of Alabama woodwind faculty, comprised of specialists on each instrument, have earned international recognition as both performers and educators. Their strong commitment to the development of outstanding musicians and educators is evidenced by the steady growth of the woodwind area and by the outstanding record of our graduates who hold positions in orchestras, educational systems and performing ensembles around the world. The artists/teachers of the Woodwind Area bring to their studios the experience gained through many years as performing and recording artists and as educators working with a wide rage of students. These experiences span a vast number of idioms including symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo careers, jazz and commercial ensembles and all areas of teaching.
Woodwind students at the University of Alabama, whether music majors, minors or non-majors, are able to participate in all ensembles including the Huxford Symphony, the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensembles and the Contemporary Ensemble. We are also pleased to offer a wide variety of chamber ensembles such as Woodwind Quintet, Reed Trio, Chamber Winds, Early Music Ensemble, Jazz Combos, and studio instrumental ensembles such as Saxophone Quartet, Clarinet Choir, Flute Choir and Bassoon Ensemble.
