1. University of Alabama Honor Choir Festival
Congratulations on your selection to participate in the Twenty-Third Annual Alabama Honor Choir Festival. To insure your place in this year’s event, please carefully read and attend to the following instructions regarding the festival.
2. Response
Your acceptance of this invitation to participate in this event is required. After reviewing this information, please indicate your commitment to attend the festival by logging into your online resume and selecting the “I will attend” button in the status box. While in your resume, please be sure to indicate your scholarship interests as well so that an audition time may be scheduled for you in advance. Specifics about the Audition are listed below in Section 6: School of Music and Scholarship Auditions. If you are requesting a voice lesson, you must be a senior with the intention of majoring in music at college, and please be sure to indicate your request on your resume.

Our festival this year will be an Honor Reading Choir. This means that everyone will receive the music for the first time at the first rehearsal. Therefore, no music will be sent to you in advance. Attendance for the entire event (Friday through Saturday) is required.
3. Fees / Payment Instructions
A $50.00 non-refundable Participation Fee is required of all participants. This fee includes admission to clinics and concerts.
Checks should be payable to THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA and earmarked HONOR CHOIR.

Checks should reach us no later than Friday, January 21, 2011. If we do not receive payment by this date, students may be replaced with alternate members. If individual students submit checks, please be sure to include the student’s name and school on the check.
4. Accommodations – Housing and Chaperones
The Alabama Honor Choir does not provide housing or chaperones for the festival. Participants and/or directors are responsible for making housing and chaperone arrangements. ALL STUDENTS MUST BE CHAPERONED BY AN ADULT CHAPERONE IN ORDER TO ATTEND THE FESTIVAL. Students without adult chaperones will not be allowed to participate in the festival. Below is a listing of some of the hotels in the Tuscaloosa area. You are certainly free to choose any hotel for your housing. This list is provided for your convenience only.

5. Check In
Check in will be from 9:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Friday, January 28, 2011. Check in will take place in the lobby of the Concert Hall of the Moody Music Building.
6. School of Music & Scholarship Auditions
ALABAMA HONOR CHOIR FULL TUITION SCHOLARSHIP AND SCHOLARSHIP FOR MUSIC MAJORS
In order to be considered for this award, you must want to be a music major at the University of Alabama for the 2011-2012 school year, and perform an audition for School of Music voice faculty. SCHOOL OF MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MUSIC MAJORS ONLY will take place on Friday afternoon. If you are planning on being a music major in college and are interested in auditioning for SCHOOL OF MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS, you must email Tonia Hicks in the School of Music office at thicks@music.ua.edu. The auditions will take place from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Friday, January 28, 2011. Upon receipt of your email, Ms. Hicks will assign you an individual audition time. Remember, these auditions are for those students planning to major in music and will graduate high school in 2011.
ALABAMA CHORAL PARTICIPATION SCHOLARSHIPS:
If you are interested in being considered for a UA CHORAL ENSEMBLE PARTICIPATION SCHOLARSHIP be sure to indicate your desire on your resume.
To be considered for a choral ensemble scholarship, a brief audition is required. The audition will include: vocalization (assessing your range), tonal memory, and sight-singing. You do not need to prepare a piece to sing. REMEMBER TO confirm your audition time at registration. These auditions will be held from
2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on FRIDAY AFTERNOON.
8. VOICE LESSONS
Voice lessons are available to seniors only who intend to be music majors in college. When you check in please confirm your lesson time and voice teacher.

- Dr. Doff Procter, Baritone
9. What to Bring
A. Your chorus uniform
B. Appropriate clothing for attending concerts and rehearsals
C. A pencil and black folder for music that will be provided
10. Finale Concert
The Finale Concert will be held on SATURDAY, JANUARY 29, 2011, beginning at 7:30 PM in the Concert Hall of the Moody Music Building. The concert is open to the public free of charge and should conclude by 9:30 PM. The concert will feature the Hoover High School’s SENIOR HONOR CHOIR, directed by Diana Mayhall and Cathy Shelton, UA’s Men’s A cappella Group, University Singers, and our 23rd Honor Choir. We will have a fantastic time!
