moody_signThe School of Music occupies the Frank Moody Music Building, which provides a spacious and beautiful environment in which to study and perform. The centerpiece of the building is the 1,000-seat Concert Hall with its Holtkamp organ, standing three stories high with four manuals, 65 stops, and more than 5,000 pipes. The building, which has 105,000 square feet of floor space, includes a recital/lecture hall, choral/opera, instrumental, and jazz rehearsal rooms; pipe-organ practice rooms; large teaching studios; 52 practice rooms; media center; research labs for music education and therapy; and studios equipped for electronic and computer music. The building is located at the east end of the University of Alabama campus and has ample parking directly across the street. The flowers, trees, and benches of the building’s large courtyard complete the picture of a modern facility in a graceful setting. Firms involved in the design of the building included:

Moody Music Building Directions to the Moody Music Building The Frank Moody Music Building sits on the eastern edge of the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa, on University Boulevard. Persons traveling by air should fly into the Birmingham International Airport (BHM), then drive south on Interstate 20/59 to Tuscaloosa; see below.


To drive to the School of Music via Interstate 20/59:

  1. Take exit 73 McFarland Boulevard north (US 82 W).
  2. Travel on McFarland Boulevard for 2.5 miles, past University Mall on the right.
  3. 2 blocks after the mall, take the exit ramp in the right lane for University Boulevard (AL 215).
  4. At the end of the ramp, turn right to head west on University Boulevard.
  5. At the fourth traffic light, the Moody Music Building will be on the left.
  6. There is public parking in the lot directly across from the front of the building.

If traveling via U.S. Highway 82 from the south or east, start at step #2, above.


Moody Music BuildingIf traveling via U.S. Highway 82 from the west, e.g., Mississippi:

  1. After reaching Tuscaloosa, take the exit for University Boulevard (AL 215) on the right. This exit comes almost immediately after the exit for Campus Drive.
  2. At the end of the ramp, turn right to head west on University Boulevard.
  3. At the third traffic light, the Moody Music Building will be on the left.
  4. There is public parking in the lot directly across from the front of the building.
