Linda Cummins is Associate Professor, Area Coordinator of Musicology, and Director of Graduate Studies. She holds the PhD in musicology, with a minor in comparative literature, from Louisiana State University. Her research focuses medieval music theory and on the music of Debussy in relation to his cultural milieu.  Her book Debussy and the Fragment was published in 2006 by Rodopi; a revised version of her 2005 AMS paper on the manuscript Venice, Correr 336, appeared in Philomusica on-line; and a revised version of her 2007 IMS paper will appear in 2009 in Saggiatore musicale.  She is now collaborating with Jan Herlinger on a critical edition and translation of the Compendium musicale of Nicolaus of Capua, and also of Divina auxiliante gratia, a digest of the Lucidarium of Marchetto of Padua.

She has held research fellowships and grants from the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation, the French government (Bourse Chateaubriand), the Camargo Foundation, the University of Alabama Research Advisory Committee, and the Louisiana State University Graduate School. She currently serves as president of the Southern Chapter of the American Musicological Society.
