Letter from the School of Music Director Regarding COVID-19

Dear UA Music Students,

I know that at this point everyone is more than ready for spring break and the opportunity to step back and decompress. The circumstances of the last week, the uncertainties that it provided, and the obvious nature of our current environment, have added and are adding to the typical level of expected stress. With that said, speaking on behalf of our School of Music faculty your first assignment in the coming days is to take care of yourself, find an opportunity to relax a bit, take some pressure off, and re-organize for the coming weeks and months. Our primary concern always has been and always will be your welfare, health, and ultimate success in life.

Please know that the faculty of our School of Music will be working hard on your behalf in the coming weeks to ensure that the integrity of your academic process will go forward in a meaningful way. We will be involved in discussions and meetings as necessary to ensure that we have a plan that will provide you with the best possible instruction and academic experience. Clearly, this is not the manner that any of us would have chosen to finish out the rest of this year, but it is the right decision, a necessary decision, and clearly in everyone’s best interest.

More information will be coming as we get closer to March 30. You will hear from me, and your individual teachers/instructors, regarding the specifics and the details on how your coursework and academic process will continue. There will be a plan, it will be as effective as is possible under the circumstances, and we will do everything possible to provide you with a positive and meaningful experience.

Do not hesitate to let me or anyone on our faculty know if you have any questions. We are here for you! You are our extended family. During this time we will unite, support each other, pull together, and in many ways see “the very best” in our School of Music.

We are creative people. We will find creative solutions and paths forward. Whether it be face-to-face, or in a digital format, I look forward to working with all of you as we proceed forward.

Roll tide!!
