The University of Alabama School of Music is proud to present internationally known pianist Cynthia Raim, in concert on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 3:30 PM. The performance will be held at Moody Music Building Concert Hall as part of the School of Music’s Steinway Initiative. Due to the generous sponsorship of an anonymous donor, the School is able to offer this event to the community with no charge for admission.

Raim’s concert on Sunday will feature works by Haydn, Bartok, Debussy, Schubert, and Chopin. She has previously appeared in Tuscaloosa as a soloist with the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, as well as on the Celebrity Series with acclaimed American soprano Benita Valente. Annually, she gives recitals throughout the world, participating in many leading international music festivals such as Marlboro, Ravinia, Mostly Mozart and Santa Fe. Raim has collaborated with David Soyer, Samuel Rhodes, and the Guarneri and Johannes Quartets, among others.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Cynthia Raim graduated from the Curtis Institute in 1977 after studying with Rudolf Serkin and Mieczyslaw Horszowski.

Her awards include first prize at the Clara Haskil & J.S. Bach International Piano Competitions, the Pro Musicis Award, and first prize at the Three Rivers National Piano Competition. In addition, she received the first Distinguished Artist Award of the Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia given for “outstanding achievement and artistic merit.”

The University of Alabama School of Music’s Steinway Initiative will replace the school’s aging pianos with new instruments by Steinway. This will enhance the programs in many ways including an increased ability to attract the very finest students; an elevation of the overall performance standard throughout the program; a demonstrated commitment to our students, faculty, and visiting guests; and a pledge to our audiences and community that the experiences offered by the University of Alabama School of Music are consistent with those at the finest institutions nationwide and will never be compromised.
