Guest Recital: Duo Per Se

duo per se performs chamber works for clarinet and piano from the standard repertoire, as well as contemporary works both commissioned and written for the ensemble. In demand throughout the USA and Europe, noteable appearances include recitals at the Bulgarian Embassy in Washington D.C., the 92ndStreet Y in New York City, and at the Fountain Room at Henri Selmer in Paris, and as a featured ensemble at the 2018 New Music on the Bayou Festival. Upcoming performances include returning as a featured ensemble for the 2019 New Music on the Bayou festival, at the Sydney Conservatory in Sydney, Australia, venues in Christchurch and Aukland, New Zealand, and at the 2019 International Clarinet Association Conference in Knoxville, TN.

About the Artists

Steinway Artist Tania Tachkovahas been praised by critics for performances that are “white-hot” (Sarasota Tribune) and “strong” (New York Times). She has performed as a soloist, in recital, and in chamber concerts throughout the United States and in Europe at venues such as Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, 92nd Street Y, Tenry Cultural Institute, and Steinway Hall  (New York City); Wiener Saal at Mozarteum (Austria); Henri Selmer Hall in Paris (France), Centro de Bellas Artes and Museo del Arte (Puerto Rico); Harris Hall (Aspen); Sarasota Opera House (Sarasota); and the National Palace of Culture and the Great Bulgaria Hall (Bulgaria). She has been featured as a soloist with the Orchestra of the State Academy of Music (Sofia), Shoumen Philharmonic, Razgrad Philharmonic, and the Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra. Her performances have been broadcast on radio and television, including WQXR, WITF, WPRB, and Bulgarian National Television. Additionally, Ms. Tachkova has been recording extensively for Steinway Spirio and has two critically acclaimed chamber music CDs that have been released by MSR records. As a chamber musician she has performed with members of the Berlin and Los Angeles Philharmonic, Ariel Winds, Locrian Chamber Players, Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Players, and Schweizer Oktett.

Tania Tachkova holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from Stony Brook University. Currently, she is on the piano faculty at the 92nd Street Y School of Music in New York City.

Scot Humesis Associate Professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Principal Clarinet of the Monroe Symphony (LA) and the Vashon Opera (WA) Orchestras. As a soloist he has performed with the Peconic Chamber Orchestra, the Stony Brook Symphony under the direction of Leon Fleischer, Monroe Symphony Orchestra, and the Shreveport Symphony. Humes has given recitals and master classes throughout the US, with additional performances at the International Clarinet Association conferences, the Southern Conference of the College Music Society, Michigan State University Clarinet Spectacular Day, and at the Gryperio Cultural Center in Mykonos, Greece. He has given clinics at the Louisiana Music Educators Association and Texas Music Educators Association conventions, the Mississippi Music Teachers Association, and adjudicated for numerous chamber music and concerto competitions as well as the Semi-Final round of the Young Artist Competition at conferences of the International Clarinet Association. A proponent of new music, Humes has worked with contemporary composers Frank Ticheli, Chen Yi, Libby Larsen, Eric Ewazen, and Gwyneth Walker (to name a few), and has performed in the Electroacoustic Juke contemporary music festival. Recordings include the world premiere of Downwind of Roses in Maine commissioned from composer Libby Larsen, Buffalo Gals and Other Songs by composer Gwyneth Walker, a SoundSpells release of Meyer Kupferman’s Structures with the Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Players, and Black Sky Hates The Moon, a contemporary opera by composer Max Duykers. Humes graduated from Stony Brook University with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, Ball State University with a Master of Music, and the Oberlin Conservatory with a Bachelor of Music. His teachers include Caroline Hartig, Daniel Gilbert, Alan Kay, Lawrence McDonald, and Charles Neidich. Humes is a Silverstein Pro-Team Artist and a Henri Selmer Paris Artist performing on Seles Présence clarinets.
