SCENIC VENTURES: Student-Directed Scenes and One-Act Works

April 7, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Free

As a part of the vast training the UA Opera Theatre offers, three of our members will be trying their hand at directing small scenes. Graduating Masters candidates Megan Taylor and Marie Smithwick and graduating senior Kirkland Schuler will handle everything from choosing pieces, casting, rehearsals, and all artistic decisions. The afternoon will showcase a variety of styles, featuring scenes from Montiverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Broadway’s How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying and Oklahoma!, as well as scenes from two Libby Larsen operas: Barnum’s Bird and Picnic. Those directing the Larsen scenes will have the rare opportunity to work directly with the living composer. Come enjoy art put on and performed by students!
