UA Opera Presents: Semele

February 28, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

$5 – $20

This season’s annual collaboration with the Huxford Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Blake Richardson is the seductively funny, Semele. The opera, one of Handel’s most sensuous and sparking, explores the clashing of gods and mortals, the foibles of vanity, and the tragic consequences of forbidden love. Semele tells the cautionary tale of the charmer Semele and the dashing god Jupiter, who tempt fate with a risky love affair. Semele, a girl with ambitions, craves immortality. She also has a terrifying secret: she is pregnant with Jupiter’s child. After Jupiter carries Semele off to enjoy “endless pleasure, endless love,” his wife, Juno, plots a fiery finish to the affair.
