Donna Thomasson Smith has been a choral music educator for over 25 years, including works as a publisher, an entrepreneur, as well as a teacher. She has led numerous workshops and assemblies, served as a clinician for state, regional and national conferences, and performed as a guest choral conductor in several states in the southeast. Her diverse experience has embraced a wide variety of ages, Pre-School through Collegiate, and spans across all music appreciation institutions including public and private schools, universities, community and professional organizations, churches, and in the private sector.
Smith holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Florida and the Master of Music Degree from the University of Kentucky. Ms. Smith received the Choral Music Experience (CME) Institute Artist Teacher Certificate, is a certified CME Master Teacher, and has served on faculty at CME courses. Smith currently teaches at the University of Alabama and is a life member of the American Choral Directors Association.
Outside the classroom, commissioning new works for young choral singers is her passion. Voicing for treble and mixed choirs with a variety of instruments, Smith has worked with multiple composers to provide innovative collaborations and premiering opportunities for young singers. Many of the commissioned works are published as she continues to be selected as a guest conductor for youth choirs looking for a progressive challenge.
