Marion R. Latimer is currently an instructor of music education specializing in elementary music teaching methods. Ms. Latimer attended Wichita State University where she earned a BME in 1976 and taught in the Wichita public schools for thirty-one years.
She has participated in the Metropolitan Opera Guild Creating Original Opera for Children and the Wichita State University Arts in Culture Project: Integrating the Arts. Through her efforts as co-founder and vocal music director of the Buckner Performing Arts Elementary School in Wichita, Ms. Latimer received the Good Apple Award and the Team Project Award from the Wichita Public Schools.
In addition to her work as an educator, Ms. Latimer has been active as a youth and children’s choir director. She has performed widely as a soprano soloist and as a soloist and performing member of the Wichita Chamber Chorale, Kansas’ premier professional choral ensemble. Ms. Latimer has directed numerous Honor Choirs and has led her students to create and perform original material in connection with Wichita State University, Kansas Arts Partners, and the Metropolitan Opera Guild in New York City, New York. Her students have been featured at the regional Music Educators National Conference convention in Kansas City, and her work with them has been showcased on three separate occasions at the Kansas State Department of Education/Kansas Staff Development Council annual conference. Most recently, she directed the Kansas Music Educators Association North Central District Honor Choir, and the Kansas Music Educators Association Northwest District Honor Choir. In the spring of 2007, the Kansas Music Educators Association recognized Ms. Latimer as the 2007 Kansas Outstanding Music Educator.
