Campus Orchestra

Instrumental

The Campus Orchestra is comprised of pre-college students, current UA students, and post-college students.

Chamber Choir

Vocal

Chamber Choir will provide singers the opportunity to experience a broad spectrum of choral ensemble music, most of which will be suitable for programming in a traditional public school choral music setting. While experiencing breadth of repertoire will be a key philosophical component of this ensemble, high quality choral performance will drive the methodology. Chamber Choir is open to all UA students, regardless of major.

Concert Band

Instrumental

The Alabama Concert Band began in the spring of 2010 and is comprised of UA students from various majors. The membership of the ensemble is selected by audition at the beginning of each semester. The band performs a varied repertoire of literature ranging from the most cutting edge new literature to the cornerstone classics of the wind band repertoire.

Contemporary Ensemble

Instrumental

The University of Alabama Contemporary Ensemble aims to create a welcoming, adventurous space for performers of all backgrounds and skill levels to engage with music of our time.

The ensemble aims to enlarge the audience for contemporary art music, and to generate new opportunities for its performance. The ensemble is dedicated to encouraging and nurturing the music and careers of the composers and performers of today.

Early Chamber Ensembles

Vocal Instrumental

The Early Chamber Ensembles offer students the opportunity to perform early repertoire (music from the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical eras) for credit in the School of Music’s chamber music program. Ensembles take music majors at both the undergrad and graduate level by audition at the beginning of each semester. The Early Chamber Ensembles perform regularly one concert per semester, with occasional run-out concerts, such as a performance for the annual meeting of the Southern chapter of the American Musicological Society.

Huxford Symphony Orchestra

Instrumental

A key component of the ensembles program at The University of Alabama School of Music, the Huxford Symphony Orchestra is open to music majors as well as students from other disciplines around the university.

Jazz Ensemble and Combos

Instrumental

The UA Jazz Ensemble provides a professional atmosphere for students interested in the many aspects of jazz. The Alabama Jazz Band and Jazz Standards Combo are off-shoots of the Jazz Ensemble. These groups are open by audition to any student, regardless of major.

Million Dollar Band

Instrumental

Performing in front of millions of fans each year, the Million Dollar Band has been a Crimson Tide tradition for 106 years. Saturdays at the Capstone would not be the same without the excitement provided by the 400 members of the Million Dollar Band, which is one of the most respected university marching bands in the country. Members of the Million Dollar Band are majors in almost every school and department within the University and the Million Dollar Band is easily the largest student organization on campus.

Opera Theatre

Vocal

The UA Opera Theatre training program includes opera as well as musical theater styles ranging from the Baroque to the 21st century. Graduate and undergraduate students in all degree programs can study the art of the singer-actor, applying skills to the rehearsal process to bring music and theater to life on the stage.

Symphonic Band

Instrumental

The Alabama Symphonic Band is one of four wind bands housed within The University of Alabama School of Music. The band performs a varied repertoire of literature ranging from the most cutting edge new literature to the cornerstone classics of the wind band repertoire. Membership of the ensemble is selected by audition in the Fall of each year.

Tenor Bass Chorus

Vocal

The UA Tenor Bass Chorus is open to both tenor and bass singers of all experience levels, regardless of major. This choral ensemble performs multiple concerts each semester in the Moody Concert Hall and at community events both on and off campus. The Tenor Bass Chorus engages with a variety of repertoire from the traditional choral canon to barbershop, jazz, gospel, and more. Singers in this ensemble will be in an enriching environment for singers to enhance their vocal technique and further develop musicianship skills.

This choir is not auditioned. All singers are encouraged to register! Tenor Bass Chorus meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00am-12:15pm.

Treble Chorus

Vocal
Treble Chorus is open to soprano and alto singers of all experience levels, regardless of major. This choral ensemble performs multiple concerts each semester in the Moody Concert Hall and at community events both on and off campus. Treble Chorus prepares a wide variety of high-quality music through a collaborative rehearsal process and provides an enriching environment for singers to enhance their vocal technique and develop strong musicianship skills.

This choir is not auditioned. All singers are encouraged to register! Treble Chorus meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1:00-1:50pm.

University Band

Instrumental

The Alabama University Band began in the Spring of 2018 and is comprised of UA students from various majors. The membership of the ensemble is selected by audition at the beginning of the Spring semester. The band performs a varied repertoire of literature that includes new literature from contemporary composers to the some of the cornerstone classics written for the wind band.

University Chorus

Vocal

University Chorus is open to all UA students, undergraduate and graduate, regardless of major and performs a variety of challenging music from throughout history and around the world. University Chorus frequently combines with University Singers to perform choral-orchestral masterworks. Rehearsals emphasize the development of vocal technique, ensemble listening skills, musical interpretation, and expressive communication.

This choir is not auditioned. All singers are encouraged to register! University Chorus meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-1:45pm.

University Singers

Vocal

University Singers is the premier vocal ensemble of the UA School of Music. This advanced choir consists of music majors as well as talented and driven choral enthusiasts from other academic disciplines across the university. University Singers acts as an ambassador for the university, performing frequently both on and off campus. This touring ensemble performs a wide variety of repertoire.

University Singers meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2:00-3:15pm.

Wind Ensemble

Instrumental

The Alabama Wind Ensemble is a select group of the finest wind players and percussionists from within the University Band Program and the School of Music. The ensemble has been invited to perform at prestigious events such as the College Band Directors National Association Convention, the Southern Division of the Music Educators’ National Conference, the American Bandmasters Association, and the Alabama Music Educators Association State Conference. The Alabama Wind Ensemble has commissioned and premiered works by noted composers such as Donald Grantham, Nigel Clarke, Richard Saucedo, and David Maslanka.
