UA Music Education was well represented at the 2023 Symposium on Music Teacher Education in Salt Lake City, Utah (October 12-14, 2023).
Music Education faculty member Dr. Julie Bannerman, current PhD student Siyu Tian, and UA alumnus, Dr. Elizabeth Hearn (PhD, 19’), all presented research.
Dr. Bannerman presented a spoken paper with a colleague: A Narrative Study of First Generation College Students and Belonging in Music Education. Current PhD student Siyu Tian presented a research poster: Breaking Down Barriers: Obstacles Faced by International Teaching Assistants in Music Disciplines of American Higher Education. University of Alabama alumnus Dr. Hearn presented a research poster with a colleague: Pedagogical Preferences of Choral Music Teacher Educators: A Preliminary Examination of Choral Methods Course Materials.
